Of the nearly hundred hostels in Denmark, Danhostel Skagen is the one located furthest north, in the town of Skagen, renowned for its beautiful, scenic surroundings. The hostel is encircled by some of the best beaches in Denmark, and in the Grenen area north of the hostel, you can see where the spectacular westcoast of Denmark collides with the east. At this geographical point you can also experience the strange phenomenon, where waves of the Kattegat Sea and the Skagerak Sea clashes together. The hostel was built as recently as 1994, has 127 beds and is located in peaceful surroundings close to the town centre and the many sights of Skagen. Danhostel Skagen is also perfect for schoolcamps, but remember to book ahead - the hostel is very popular all year round.

Danhostel Frederikshavn City
From the newly opened Danhostel Frederikshavn City, you can reach all the major cities and attractions in Vendsyssel, the most northern part of Jutland. The hostel, which has been opened in a restored, old warehouse from 1857 with 130 beds, lies at the cozy square Vægtertorvet, centrally located in the middle of Frederikshavn. From here there are only a few minutes to the harbour and to the pedestrian zones with several good restaurants and exciting shops.

The area in and around Skagen has so much to offer with beautiful beaches, different varieties of nice villages, churches, monuments and incredible nature. So whether you want to relax or be active, experience towns or nature, or whatever it is with your children, family or friends, Skagen has something for everyone.

You must se Grenen - you can walk or take a tractorride with Sandormen
As the geographical top of Denmark, this is the point where the two seas, the Skagerak Sea and the Kattegat Sea, meet. You can go there by taking the famous tractorride with Sandormen, that takes you from Skagen city and all the way to Grenen.
Skagen Fyr
From the top of the tallest Lighthouse in Denmark you have a fantastic view of Skagen and the surrounding area. The grey lighthouse was built in 1858 and from the ground, the spiral staircase leads 46 m and 210 steps up to the external balcony.
Rubjerg Knude
This big, sandy cliff lies in dramatic surrounding just south of the town of Hirtshals. On the highest point of Rubjerg Knude lies The Lighthouse Rubjerg Fyr, and the 23 m tall Lighthouse are to crash into the sea in about 15-20 years, as the sea eats its way into the shore. The Lighthouse was built in the year 1900, and from the Lighthouse there is a fantastic view over the area.

Skagen Museum
Some of Denmarks most famous painters and artist lived in Skagen, and from the end of the 1870s and up to the turn of the century Skagen was an international meeting place for young artists. The collection of Skagens Museum include over 1800 paintings, sketches, graphic works, sculptures and ceramics. The most prominent Skagen artists are Anna and Michael Ancher and P.S. Krøyer, and the museum was founded in 1908 in order to collect and preserve the works of the famous artists in Skagen.

Visit the sandy beaches
Skagen is surrounded by sandy beaches, but one of the recommendable ones is Skagen Sønderstrand, just a few minutes walk from the Skagen city center. It is a sandy, family beach, where the Skagen painters found the inspiration for many of their famous paintings here.
The beach is car-free - good for families., and on Skagen´s Midsummer Eve bonfire, there is a bonfire every year.
Råbjerg Mile
This sandy dune is the biggest dessert in Northern Europe, and invites visitors to a day of fun, running up and down the sandy hills. But also the history of this massive, 40 meter high dune is interesting, as it lies in the middle of flat country of Northern Jutland, grabbing everything on its road, as the dune moves about 15 meters to the east every year.

Den Tilsandede Kirke - "The Church"
The church was in earlier times the largest church in the region of Vendsyssel, until the sand started drifting into the church. This drift started around the year 1600, and reached the church at the end of the 18th century. The congregation had to dig their way into the church when they wanted to attend the services. The struggle against the sand continued until 1795 when the church was closed.
