    Railway History and Organic Silver Label

    Danhostel Gjerrild has a unique history.  It was an old railway depot used in the old days to store unused locomotives, buses and trams.  Gjerrild railway dates back to 1911 when the line opened with three trains daily in each direction.  The town is known as a family friendly area with organic cuisine.  In fact, Danhostel Gjerrild is the only place of accommodation in Jutland with an organic silver label.  This was awarded in 2014.  Dorthe runs the kitchen with a loving hand, and she and her husband, Torben, are the hostel's hosts.  Together they create a cosy atmosphere, not least, a creative and tasty cuisine, which is primarily organic.  Meals are provided for meat lovers, vegetarians, adults and children, as well as for those with special dietary needs.  If you put emphasis on food history and wholesome products, then Danhostel Gjerrild is a great place for you.

    Plenty of Activities for Children Inside and Out

    Danhostel Gjerrild provides child friendly surroundings both inside and out with a playground, table tennis, campfire, and in the high season, a large playroom.  With 24 rooms, there is enough space for singles, friends, and families of all sizes.

    Sally Due Sperling will be the new hostess at Danhostel Esbjerg on January 1, 2020. She will replace Marianne and Børge Bull who will say goodbye after 23 wonderful years as hosts at Danhostel Esbjerg. Sally is not a stranger to Danhostel as she is the current hostess at Danhostel Kolding and will say goodbye at the end of 2019.
