Meet Ulrikka Hansdatter Worsøe – Hostess at Danhostel Kalundborg

    Line Juhl Kronow

We asked our hostesses at the various Danhostels about their experiences with holidaying in Denmark. After going to North Jutland, we now head to West Zealand to talk to another hostess. It is Ulrikka, hostess Danhostel Kalundborg.g.

    Name: Ulrikka Hansdatter Worsøe

    Hostess at: Danhostel Kalundborg

Number of Years at Danhostel: 43 years. I have been hostess for the last 29 years.

Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Aarhus but raised in Åbenrå and Viborg. I enjoyed my upbringing in Åbenrå with the sea, but I also enjoyed the magnificent moors in Viborg.

Where in Denmark did you spend your last holiday?
In Skagen.  We wanted to see the exhibition called, (in Danish) Ved bordet. Mennesker, mad & nature morte.

Where is your favourite place in Denmark to spend your holidays?
Bisserup, an old little fishing village, with a supermarket, an inn, a few fishermen and a nice beach without a lot of tourists, yet, you could get public transport to many different places.

Which location in Denmark would you like to visit that you have never been to before?
Anholt. It was such a nice place when I was young, but I never visited.

What is the best thing about holidaying in Denmark?
Danes should not spend so much time travelling. The weather in Denmark is ok.  You just need a sweater, a raincoat and good footwear.

What would you say to those who do not normally spend their holidays in Denmark?
They should try it.  All places in Denmark are worth a visit. There is always a church, a museum, beautiful scenery and coastline.

What is the best thing about being a hostess at a Danhostel?
I have a varied work day. You follow your guests from the time they send their first email until they check out. There are families who come for cycle trips, old schoolmates, Norwegian rugby teams or ladies who practice yoga. Not to mention all our course and conference guests as well as camp schools where we often help to plan activities and gourmet meals.

If you could mention ONLY one thing about your hostel, what would it be?
Our amazing organic meals. Eating together is one of the most important daily social events.

Which hostel would you recommend to our guests?
It's a matter of what you desire. If you want to swim in the ocean, there are plenty of Danhostels.  If you want to visit the moors, there are many hostels close by.  If you prefer hostels close to large cities where you can do some shopping, there are some.  There is always a Danhostel nearby.
